How to Use the Past to Reinvent the Future!

  • Early use of the internet was interesting to say the least. When you look back at early website design, you will find bright colors, a creative way of using images, GIFs, and non-formulaic text columns. While it may not have been the epitome of design, considering how far we have come in creating pleasing web pages and programs, it was effective in its use. Not because of its style choices or visual components, but because it was creative. They had the inherent advantage of the internet being brand new, so unique creation was far easier to achieve. But they chose to take chances on unique ideas that their competition wasn’t doing as their attention grabber. Early advertisements were similar in this way.
  • They created ideas, characters, bits, even if they were absurd at points, that were memorable. Whether that be because it was funny, sad, scary, or weird. One thing that has always been effective in media in general is using human emotions to create memories. One of the problems with current marketing is the lack of those feelings and humanity as a whole. The issue of having little time to tell a story makes it difficult to create those feelings, or even the idea that most people choose not to believe these companies actually have the desire to connect with their customers or viewers. So, the advertiser needs to go through the process, assuming that the viewer has that distrust, but still attempts to create a human connection despite that.
